Amusement
Park Owner Takes Lawyers for a Ride
Problem: The owner of a New
York amusement park claimed a multi-million dollar loss as the result
of a fire that was allegedly caused by defective roofing material.
Solution:
A large law firm retained SIU to evaluate the merits
of a business interruption claim. SIU'S investigators were able
to locate and obtain statements from former employees of the amusement
park. It was proven that the employees' inexperience in installing
the roofing material was the cause of the fire. SIU'S accountants
were able to prove that the bulk of the revenue loss was attributable
to bad weather and other factors not related to the fire.
Results:
The case was settled for 20 percent of the original claim.
