Employees Caught Using Their "Five-Finger Discount"

Problem: An exclusive French designer and manufacturer of leather goods was experiencing employee theft at one of its franchises locations. Employees were illegally selling merchandise at huge discounts, and making sales of jewelry on stolen credit cards and shipping the items to fictitious customers. One of the franchise owners used corporate credit cards for his personal use, company checks were used for non-business expenses, and two company employees engaged in "laundering" of company funds.

Solution: The SIU investigation included numerous steps. SIU conducted an extensive analysis of accounting records, interviewed customers as well as former and present employees, tracked packaged deliveries and interviewed recipients, and maintained on-going interaction with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Results: The investigation resulted in a referral to local law enforcement and is on-going.
