CASE HISTORIES

Quarry Operator Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Problem: A quarry operator received an anonymous phone call informing him that one of his employees was involved in a conspiratorial relationship with a number of stone haulers. The employee allegedly was selling expensive stone for $50.00 cash per truckload.

Solution: The SIU team conducted an extensive investigation, which included the covert installation of video cameras at the facility in question, an "in plain sight surveillance" at the quarry, following loads of stolen stone across state lines, cultivation of informants, videotaping the transfer of bribes, and personal contact with the haulers involved.

Results: Full restitution of the amounts stolen, plus the cost of investigation.
